100 thousand cubic meters of water will be conveyed to the North Crimean Channel from a borehole on a daily basis. The “minister” of ecology and natural resources of Crimea Gennady Naraev informed about that at the press-conference in Simferopol.
Facilities of two water intake structures, each of which contains 12 boreholes, are used for filling the North Crimean Channel.
According to the official, water is planned to be surveyed to settlements of North Crimea. At the same time, drinking water is already delivered to the channel in a testing mode, however, Naraev considers that it is not completely right.
“Of course, a question raises here: how is it possible to convey water of drinking quality to the North Crimean Channel? But, unfortunately, we do not have any other options so far. Actions on construction of the conveying passing provided by the FTP (federal targeted programme of development of Crimea until 2020 – Editor’s note) will start only this year,” the “minister” specified.
According to the information of the official, the installation of the temporary water line is performed by the military. The work should be finished by May.
As a reminder, experts believe that if the North Crimean Channel is not used for a year or two, it will be impossible to restore it.
Up to 85% of fresh water was delivered to Crimea through the North Crimean Channel. After the annexation, conveying of water to Crimea has been terminated.
