Public catering places in Soviet style are opened in the Crimean cities on a more frequent basis. The media 15 minutes reports about that.
Regular visitors of such canteens and cafes are tourists and Crimeans with low incomes. The price of the first and second courses and compote will be no more than 200 rubles.
“It is not a drink “Kolosok”, it is a classic Americano coffee with condensed milk,” a barman of one of street cafes in the center of Simferopol explains his recipe of the “Soviet style coffee”. The price of this drink is 70 rubles. According to the barman, the “Soviet style coffee” is a sales hit along with Latte.
The trend for nostalgic Soviet catering places became popular after the referendum of 2014 in Crimea. The ice-cream called “GOST”, “Sovetskiy stakanchik” and “USSR” was put on the market, and the “Soviet canteens” and “Soviet dumpling bars” started to be opened in the cities. Traditional dishes of the menu in such places are borscht, soups, dumplings, vareniki, cutlets, macaroni and compote. A standard portion size is 200 grams or 14 dumplings.
