In Kerch, the wing of one of flight stairs of the Great Mithridates Staircase, which is an architectural historic building in the city center, collapsed on Friday evening, June 26. The collapse of masonry structures happened during performance about the King Mithridates that was held out in the open air, Krym.Realii informs.
According to the media, Kerch citizens repeatedly asked the authorities to repair the flight of the Mithridates Staircase, the crack on which appeared in 2014.
The emergency section was closed for tourists being protected with concrete blocks with the notice board “No entry” at the end of April. However, reconstruction work has not been started since then.
The Ministry of Cultural Heritage of Russia that Kerch authorities wanted to consult with had to determine the fate of this tourist attraction. It was planned either to destroy the Mithridates Staircase in order to start the reconstruction work or wait for its natural collapse.
