The Greek ferry “Jonas” that carried out the transport of vehicles and passengers on the Kerch Strait ferry line over the course of the year is going to shut down on grounds of the contract termination and debts of the “Ministry” of Transport of Crimea. “Integrated transport management” (ETD) informs about that.
“The Greek ferry “Jonas” is going to leave the Kerch Strait ferry line on grounds of the contract termination,” the “Integrated transport management” informed. “Efforts are currently underway to re-export the vessel, but there are arrears with payments of freight at the moment.”
Since January 15, 2015 the Kerch Strait ferry line has been given under the supervision of the “Ministry of Transport” of Crimea. The LLC “Marine Directorate” that should carry out the payments was created to control the ferry line operation. However, the money has never been transferred to the account of the owner of the ferry “Jonas”.
“Monetary default of the “Marine Directorate” has led to the debts owed to the ship owner in March,” the ETD informed having added that despite the demands to pay the debts, the money hasn’t been transferred to the account of the ship owner yet.
The ferry “Jonas” has been working at the ferry line since May 23, 2014. Its capacity is 120 units of passenger cars and 600 people.
As a reminder, as of March 22, 2015, there were about 2,000 trucks in the queue at the Kerch Strait ferry line.
