In spite of waiting for manna from “Russo-tourists”, the failed 2014 season forced the Crimean “authorities” to seek tourists in Ukraine. And the “minister” of tourism Elena Yurchenko, who recently spoke about poor “khokhols” who come with their own potatoes and lard, suddenly started saying that Crimea is waiting for Ukrainians going on vacation with open arms. Crimean hotels and sanatoriums publish prices in rubles and hryvnyas on their web pages, while local travel agencies often have offices in Kiev. However, it’s questionable whether the Ukrainians want to go to the occupied peninsula. It is not just the politics, good judgment shows that the vacation in Crimea is a very expensive thing. We analyzed prices of rooms in sanatoriums, hotels, private vacation cottages and vacation houses at the peak 2015 season (July-August).
Crimean sanatoriums
Sanatorium resort services in Crimea seem to be not fully prepared for the season yet – not all sanatoriums published their prices for summer 2015. But the following picture is emerging from the ones that operate. The most expensive accommodation per night for one person in a double room with meals and treatment is in such sanatoriums as “Kurpaty” or “Rossiya” (formerly “Ukraina”) – the room price ranges from $60 to $200 per night. The well-known “Dyulber”, “Ay-Danil” or “Zori Rossii” (formerly “Zori Ukrainy”) offer options from $45 to $105 . The average price of vouchers for sanatoriums in Evpatoriya and Feodosiya ranges within $70-100 per night with meals and treatment.
Crimean hotels
Prices for accommodation in hotels (mostly just breakfast is included in meals) are not affordable. Of course, the most expensive is Yalata – a golden dream of the average Russian man of all times. Accommodation per night will cost from $110 for a standard room with breakfast included in a presentable hotel up to $1100 for a luxury suite of rooms. Neighboring Alushta is up there with the “capital of the South Coast”. Thus, the price in one of the most luxurious hotels for a standard room starts from 5500 hryvnyas. Some hotels offer options with half board from $230 to $360 per night.
Private hotels (or guest houses) offer a variety of accommodation options: from $30 for a double room with shared bathroom to $45 for a standard room with amenities per night.
Prices on the west and east coast of the peninsula are more affordable: you can book a quite presentable room in Evpatoriya and Feodosiya hotels for $45-70, in mini-hotels – even at a lower price.
Vacation houses
In recent years vacation houses, which are seaside two story cottages at a minimum, are in great popularity in Crimea. This type of tourism attracted mostly large groups of people, who came to Crimea by car and got a house with all amenities, free parking, a barbecue area and, what is more important, a blue sea directly outside the windows for not too large sum of money.
As of today, the price of a fully-equipped room of 2-3 bedrooms (for 6-8 people) in Bolshaya Alushta vacation houses ranges from $160 to $230 per night, in Nikolaevka (the village near Simferopol) such a pleasure will cost about $75. Although, most likely, the owners are ready for bargaining, so they offer to contact them via e-mail and agree on the price.
Is it worth to go on vacation in Crimea?
As the saying goes, everyone chooses for himself. We will just state one figure to compare: in Odessa a luxury suite of rooms in a seaside hotel costs $113. Add transportation problems to this: you can get only Novoalekseevka by train, but then you have to look for a taxi or a minibus to get the peninsula and then go to the sea. It is even hard to imagine how much time it will take. The same difficult trip awaits those, who choose to go to Crimea by their own transport – the sad experience of passing the “borders” during May holidays showed that the waiting time can be from 6 to 18 hours. And, finally, don’t forget that the cute Crimean “prosecutor” Natalya Poklonskaya already promised Ukrainians the “warm welcome” on the peninsula and wards without a view of the sea.
