укр книгиLast week the Ukrainian Cultural Centre started the project to collect Ukrainian books in Simferopol. It is planned to create the First Ukrainian public library on the peninsula.

“Today Crimea is sorely in need of dictionaries, reference books, encyclopedias, technical and popular scientific publications, the literature of Ukrainian classic and modern authors,” the activist Leonid Kuzmin wrote on his Facebook page.

In addition, he added that children’s books in Ukrainian are a separate issue.

“A similar situation is with school textbooks. As a result of the annexation of Crimea to the Russian Federation and adoption of the Russian educational standards by Crimean schools, they had to scrap old textbooks. Consequently, pupils lost a chance to obtain full knowledge under the Ukrainian program and prepare for external independent testing,” he wrote.
