Crimean lost half of its crop yield and all rice farming because of a lack of water. The Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Oleksiy Pavlenko said that in a conversation with the 5 Kanal.
“The situation is as follows – rice farming is almost destroyed in Crimea. Even though it was a powerful sector – 19,000 hectares of land. The crop yield will be lost due to a lack of water, and according to our calculations, Crimea will lose up to 50% of yield without water – and it is 350-400 thousand tons. Crimea can’t provide itself with food under such conditions,” Pavlenko says.
According to him, the difference between the situation in the Kherson region and Crimea is obvious even now.
“One can see a striking difference between the agricultural sector in Crimea and mainland Ukraine,” Pavlenko says.
