The Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that at the meeting with the Russian President Volodymyr Putin in Baku, he gave him a report on human rights violations in Crimea that was prepared by the Turkish delegation. The Russian Service of the Turkish radio and television corporation TRT informs.
“The Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan who visited Baku within the framework of the European Games conducted negotiations with President of the Russian Federation Volodymyr Putin. When returning to Turkey, Erdogan put out the statement and said that the report of the Turkish delegation on the problems of the Crimean Tatars was given to Putin,” the message says.
The report was prepared by the non-official Turkish delegation headed by the Professor Zafer Uskyul that was sent to Crimea specially for researching the human rights violation in the republic.
During the 4-day visit, the delegation held talks with the representatives of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People, mass media, clergymen, members of non-governmental organizations and with ordinary citizens as well. Uskyul emphasized that the current Crimean government pursued the delegation members during all the time while these researches were carried out.
“It was clear that they didn’t wish us to meet with opposition-minded people. They never left us alone. We were always accompanied by the government representatives,” Uskyul said.
According to the professor, the delegation recorded many human rights violations related to freedom of speech, judicial matters, education, and inviolability of residence and property in Crimea.
The main points of the report are “Problems with housing and citizenship”, “The Tatar language is the official language only in words”, “Property of the Mejlis and foundations was confiscated”, “Ban on mass media”, “Searches of houses, madrasah and mosques”, “Legal investigation of missing and kidnapped Crimean Tatars is ineffective”, “There is no problem solving plan”.
