The “chairman” of the Education, Science, Youth and Sports Commission of the Public chamber of Crimea Aleksandr Rudyakov said that, e-Krym reports.

“Today our concern is that a number of our compatriots insist that besides the state Russian language, the Crimean Tatar and Ukrainian languages should be studied as well in Crimean schools. We try to deal with it, because we think that we lived under the language compulsion for a long time, when schoolchildren studied the Ukrainian. Here, the main motivation is that if a person wants to learn a language, he will do that himself, but when everybody was taught the Ukrainian without the desire to learn it, then it acquires other shades,” Rudyakov explained.

According to him, today there is no social base of the Ukrainian language in Crimea. At the same time, the study of the native language is provided for by law in Russia and this allows introducing additional hours of learning the native language.

As a reminder, in August the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin said that it is necessary to ensure the equal status of three languages in the peninsula: the Russian, Ukrainian and Crimean Tatar.

Today there is a website operating for Crimeans, who have a goal to learn the Ukrainian language and literature. You can find more information about the website following the link.
