Construction work on a building plot where the kalga-sultan residency was located was abandoned. The press-service of the Spiritual Directorate of Muslims of Crimea informs about that.
The decision on suspension of construction was made by the “head” of Crimea Sergey Aksenov after meeting with the chairman of the Spiritual Directorate of Muslims of Crimea hadji Emirali Ablaev. Aksenov said that construction on the plot will not be resumed without a preliminary examination and making a common decision together with the Spiritual Directorate of Muslims of Crimea.
Recently, on the plot, construction work was started, presumably, on building of a many-storeyed house, the territory was fenced, and excavator was in use. Presently, the constructing activities are suspended, the fence is pulled down.
Prior, the Spiritual Directorate of Muslims of Crimea announced that the plot was allocated by the City Council of Simferopol for construction of an ice rink after what it appealed to the prosecutor’s office with a petition of monitoring of legality of the decision of the City Council. In XV – XVI centuries a complex that consisted of a mosque and a madrasah and also a library and palace of the karga-sultan, who was the second entity in order of importance after the khan in the hierarchy of the Crimean Khanate. The Spiritual Directorate establishes a goal to recreate the complex.
Having existed over 300 years, the palace was destroyed during the Russian conquest of Crimea.
