The issue of water supply for irrigation of the agricultural lands wasn’t solved in Crimea. The “chairman” of the State Committee for Water Management and Land Reclamation of Crimea Igor Vayl announced about that on the air of the radio station “Russia Today”, e-Krym reports.
“There is no question of irrigation. Water storage suffices only for providing of food water supply. At the same time, an agricultural strategy is already developed, which provides replacement of cultures, such as, for example, rice. In addition, construction of water storage ponds from the Little Salgir River and other sources for irrigation is planned,” Vayl said.
He emphasized that seawater desalination won’t aid to solve the issue of irrigation, because the desalination equipment is very expensive, what will increase the prime cost of the cultivated crop in tens of times. Wastewater purification will partially help to make good the deficit of water.
