kanal-400x300Ukraine will convey water to Crimea through the North Crimean Channel only in case when a legitimate agency appointed according to the law of Ukraine on the occupied territories, with which a contract can be signed, is created in Crimea. The acting chairman of the State Agency for Water Resources Aleksey Chunarev informed about that, the Center for Investigative Reporting reports.

According to him, another necessary condition is construction of a regulating irrigation structure in the streambed of the North Crimean Channel on the border with Crimea. It was planned to allocate 50 million hryvnyas to the Ministry of Natural Resources and State Agency for Water Resources for its engineering and construction from the Stage Budget of Ukraine for 2015.

“Necessity of the construction of this permanent retaining structure together with the arranging of commercial unit of water evaluation is caused, first of all, by the need of secure water resources supply to the agricultural manufactures of the Kherson region that use water from the North Crimean Channel and also for initiation of water conveying from the channel to Crimea according to an agreement”, Chunarev informs.

Chunarev emphasized that discharge of the debt of Crimea that amounted to 1.7 million hryvnyas to the administration of the North Crimean Channel for water consumption in 2013 also remains one of the necessary conditions for the future negotiations regarding water conveying to Crimea.

As a reminder, the situation with water supply of certain cities and irrigation and watering of agricultural lands became critical after annexation of Crimea.
