изобильненское водохранилищеRainfalls that occurred on the peninsula led to excess water in Crimean reservoirs. Because of this, it was necessary to discharge water from some reservoirs. The “deputy head of the State Committee for Water Resources and Land Reclamation” of Crimea Vladimir Lysenko informed about that, RIA Novosti reports.

“There was almost five months worth of rain in the area of Dzhankoy region, 3.7 of monthly norm of precipitation – in the Krasnohvardiiske region, 3.5 – in Simferopol, and 2.8 – in Bakhchisaray. That is, in general, average rainfall exceeded by three-four times,” Vladimir Lysenko said.

Because of heavy rains, it was necessary to discharge water from some reservoirs on the peninsula in order to avoid the dam failure.

“Due to the fact that we didn’t know whether there would be the further filling of reservoirs, when water reached more than 90% of the filling level of reservoirs, we had to discharge water to avoid dire consequences. We keep a reserve of 5-8%. If we kept all water that has come down through tributaries, the reservoirs would be overfilled and dams would simply break. This situation was in Partizanskoe, Simferopolskoe, Zagorskoe water reservoirs,” Lysenko said.

As it was reported earlier, the “State Committee for Water Resources and Land Reclamation” announced that heavy rains filled Crimean water reservoirs and provided the peninsula with water until the end of the year.
