Crimea has never been a part of Ukraine. The former president of the Czech Republic Vaclav Klaus said that in the interview to the Austrian newspaper Die Presse, the European Pravda reports.

It is clear that Crimea has never been a part of Ukraine, you know it. Crimes always belonged to Russia,” he said.

“I don’t see anything tragic about that,” the ex-president added.

Klaus thinks that the crucial reason of the annexation of Crimea is the internal events in Ukraine.

“The internal crisis in Ukraine is the main reason for me. There would be no annexation of Crimea without Maydan,” pointed the ex-president of the Czech Republic.

According to Klaus, there was no post-Soviet political transformation in Ukraine.

“Compared to other countries of the Central and Eastern Europe, Ukraine is a failure. That’s the reason of the present conflict,” he said.

“Ukraine is a split-up, artificially created country, it is not a primordial territory with homogeneous population,” Klaus thinks.

“This is why, the transformation turned out to be a lot more complicated for Ukraine than for the other countries. The present crisis is the result of attempts to force Ukraine to make a choice between the West and the East. To put a country in front of such choice means to destroy it”,  he emphasized.
