A large French company is operating in occupied Crimea in spite of sanctions and ready to invest in the recycling of waste on the South Coast of Crimea.
The ‘Minister’ of Housing and Communal Services of Crimea Sergey Karpov informed about that, Kryminform reports.
“In spite of everything, the French company is operating here, on the South Coast of Crimea. It is called Veolia. In other words, the French are working under sanctions in Russian Crimea. We support them. We allocate a separate cluster for them in Greater Yalta. It seems to me that their owners are the Germans and the Dutch. In other words, this is a large company, which is ready to come here with investments. They are operating right now. They are engaged in the sorting. It is one of the first companies, may be even the first one that started to deal with garbage sorting,” Karpov said.
Veolia is a French company that specializes in four areas: water supply and purification; utilities (including collection and recycling of waste); energy (electricity supply, installation and maintenance of energy and heating equipment) and transport services. As of 2012, its main assets amounted to $63.8 billion. The company is operating on the Russian and Ukrainian markets, including Crimea.
The Veolia Company’s representatives in Ukraine told the journalist from Pod Pritselom that the affiliated company “AltfaterKrym”, which is a part of a group of Veolia companies while being owned by the German company, is still operating on the territory of occupied Crimea. The Ukrainian Veolia company itself doesn’t cooperate with Crimea now.
There is the information on the website of the Crimean LLC “AltfaterKrym” re-registered in September 2014 that according to the decision of the German founder of Veolia UmweltserviceGMBH, the LLC “AltfaterKrym” is the AltfaterKrym continuing company registered in Yalta in March 1997.
As a reminder, the EU and the US imposed sanctions against Crimea and the Russian Federation after the annexation of Crimea by Russia. Starting from December 20, 2014, the EU prohibited to invest to Crimea and Sevastopol. The companies registered in the EU can’t buy the real estate in Crimea, provide funding for Crimean companies or offer the related services. In addition, it is forbidden to export certain goods and technology to Crimean companies or for using them in Crimea. This includes transport, telecommunications and energy industries, exploration and production of oil, gas and mineral resources. The technical assistance, brokerage, construction and engineering services related to the infrastructure in these sectors also can’t be provided.
