Tons of garbage may fall on Greater Yalta unless protective works are undertaken on the municipal solid waste landfill (MSW) in Gaspra in the near future.
The chairman of the Crimean Republican Association “Ecology and Peace” Viktor Tsarenko said in the interview with the Komsomolskaya Pravda newspaper.
“The landfill is located in the landslide zone, it is necessary to take urgent engineering and technical measures to protect it. I hope to God, there are not heavy rains and seismic movements, but if there are, 8 million cubic meters of soil will fall on Gaspra and the federal road,” the ecologist says about his fears.
According to him, the local “authorities” planned to close this landfill even in 2015.
In general, in the expert’s opinion, all Crimean MSW landfills are full to overflowing and pollute the environment and ground water.
