Crimean ports are unprofitable for Russian transport services

Russia recognized cargo and passenger transportation on the Black Sea through Crimean ports unprofitable, with the exception of the Kerch ferry line.

порт евпаторияThe head of the International marine business forum SIMBF Aleksey Malko announced that at the press conference, as reported by Kryminform.

“Our ports are not developed because of the sanctions and logistics. If a ship crossing from Novorossiysk to Sevastopol or Evpatoriya is more expensive than the Kerch ferry crossing, no one will use the ships,” Malko said.

According to him, the cost of cargo delivery from Novorossiysk to any Crimean port by sea is much more expensive than cargo transportation by motor vehicles through the Kerch ferry line.

“Ferries from Novorossiysk to Sevastopol broke even or operated at a loss last year,” the expert gave an example.

There is a similar situation with passenger transportation, which is effective only during the holiday season.

“It is cheaper to go from Yalta to Evpatoriya by bus, as our navigation season is 3-4 months and a vessel should be kept somewhere for the rest of time and this is added to the ticket costs,” Malko said.
